Behind “Budding Nobody”

Behind “Budding Nobody”

The inspiration for “Budding Nobody” came from the title. I was having a conversation with my boyfriend at the time, and somehow the phrase “budding nobody” came up. Don’t ask me how hah! He said that would be a good lyric and I should put it in a song. It was pretty simple.

To me, the phrase “Budding Nobody” is the idea of having tons of artistic motivation and inspiration but nowhere to focus and put that energy.

THEN I thought about how we rely on other people to keep us inspired and how that can backfire. So THEN it turned into a breakup song that is also about an artistic struggle for motivation. It’s kind of a unique problem to have, but I think it does happen with couples who are both in the arts.

Hope you dig:)

Behind Meraki

Meraki was an experimental project in many ways because it was full of firsts. These are the first songs I wrote on guitar. And I think it’s safe to say this was my first time going in this direction musically. I was inspired by artists who write more unconventionally, like Fiona Apple and Joni Mitchell. I was also inspired by folk style artists, like Middle Brother, Bob Dylan, and Sara Watkins. Things always take a different shape in the room, but that’s where my brain started!

Stay tuned for more backstory behind each song on Meraki :)

Thanks!

My album Meraki is out and available on all major streaming platforms!

Many thanks to my producer Edan Freiberger for all the work he put into this project and the many afternoon’s spent collaborating! When I first showed the songs to Edan, I mentioned some emotions I was trying to capture for different songs.. nostalgia, uncertainty, flirtatiousness, etc. Edan’s style took the tracks in a direction I found to be really interesting and beautiful. And I feel he made a group of very different songs all work together.

Fun fact: he’s playing violin on all the tracks

And thank you to my Executive Producer and dear friend, Adam Hagenboo. The first person who heard these songs, introduced my to my producer, and supported me throughout the entire process, this project would have never come to be without Adam!

I could go on and on, but I’ll just say thanks guys❤️❤️ hope y’all dig and don’t forget to #gowiththeflolivia :))

Behind "Alive Again"

Behind "Alive Again"

Alive Again” is the first single I released from my upcoming album, “Meraki”.

Alive Again” was something I was working on while getting to know Logic (music software). I laid down the vocal scratch track in my closet and didn’t expect to release it. That was probably 2 years ago now! When I showed it to my producer he said “I don’t know if we need to do this again” and we ended up using that first demo vocal and lyrics!

Alive Again” leans in a musical direction I’d like to explore more. It’s also the only song on “Meraki” that I wrote on piano instead of guitar. Piano being my main instrument, “Meraki” was very experimental for me! Hope you dig!

"Meraki” is currently available for PRE-ORDER and/or if you become a PATRON, you get the entire album right now for free.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to #gowiththeflolivia :))

New album set to release!

Hello!

My new album, “Meraki”, is set to release November 13th, 2018. I’m excited to be getting these songs out there!! I wrote many of them over a year ago and didn’t think I’d ever release them. But after some persuasion from my friends, I had a change of heart. And here we are!

Meraki is a Greek word meaning to do something with soul, creativity, or love. It’s when you put something of yourself into what you're doing, whatever that may be.

I love this word and knew it would be the title of this album! “Meraki” is full of…Meraki.. lol

I wrote “Meraki” during a very insulated chapter of my life. I was going through my first serious relationship and also just starting my career. So it was full of good times, but also lots of growing up. Now that all seems like a different lifetime. I’m glad I could capture that part of my life in this album like a time capsule.

Stay tuned for more backstory and don’t forget to #gowiththeflolivia ;p
